James Chu is a composer of concert and electronic music who grew up playing clarinet.

As a composer, he has collaborated with the Ensemble Dal Niente, the JACK Quartet, musicians of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Princeton One-Act Opera, New York New Music Ensemble, Sonar New Music Ensemble, Deviant Septet, filmmaker Sam Cutler-Kreutz, pianist, Mayuko Yamashita, librettist, Lily Akerman, and the Lorelei Ensemble, amongst others. He can also be seen performing clarinet alongside live-electronics and collecting field recordings for his multi-channel acoustic sound installations.

He is a graduate of Princeton University and the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
