James Chu is a composer and performer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music that seeks transparency and depth.
James recently recorded his clarinet quintet, All the Other Roses, with the JACK Quartet, playing the clarinet part himself. He has also worked with the Mivos String Quartet, Ensemble Dal Niente, New York New Music Ensemble, the Lorelei Ensemble, the Crossing, Princeton One-Act Opera Project, and has contributed music for film and sound installations.
Originally trained in performance as a clarinetist, James turned to composition later in life. He attended Princeton University and the Peabody Institute, and is currently a PhD candidate in music composition at Duke University.
