James Koya Chu is a composer and musician of acoustic and electronic music.
He has collaborated ensembles such as the JACK and Mivos string quartets, Ensemble Dal Niente, New York New Music Ensemble, Deviant Septet, the Lorelei Ensemble, Princeton One-Act Opera, amongst other ensembles.
A classically-trained clarinetist and a jazz-trained pianist, he graduated from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and Princeton University. His composition teachers include John Supko, Paul Lansky, Steven Mackey, Oscar Bettison, Barbara White, Stephen Jaffe, and Scott Lindroth. He is a PhD. candidate at Duke University.
